You'd be forgiven for thinking of white when a wedding is mentioned. However, it is far from the only colour choice brides and grooms consider today; indeed many won't even contemplate going with the traditional white wedding theme.
A mass of colour options have appeared in recent years, giving couples a rainbow of choices for their main wedding theme or as supplementary colours.
We've taken a look at the most popular wedding theme colours as of 2024 and what is rising in popularity too.
Most popular wedding theme colours
Emerald Green
Reminiscent of Ireland's title of "The Emerald Isle", this shade of green has becoming astoundingly popular for the main wedding theme and dresses.
One of the advantages it brings is that it is fitting for all season and possesses a remarkable quality of being able to give you additional colour palette options such as light blue, silver or pink; they all go well with it.
The demand for green wedding dresses has shot up and you'll find a large number of emerald green bridesmaid dresses available.
Brown/Tans
This is an interesting one, because it encompasses a number of nature-inspired tones that are very earthy in their look and appeal. Deep browns and light tanned browns belong to this category, along with deeper flat greens.
From a wedding theme perspective, it could be argued that it fits with all barn/rustic trends too, an area that exploded a few years ago and has continued to thrive. We've lost count of the number of venues we've seen build or convert into barn venues and make use of outbuildings!
A brown wedding dress might not sound like everyone's idea of bridal romance, but you'd be amazed how fabulous they can look.
Lavender
Lavender has been a popular colour for weddings for as long as we can remember and long before that! It is colour that will forever be up for consideration and there are good reasons for it.
To begin with, it is an undeniably romantic colour that can be used alongside a wide variety of others. Some people might say it isn't a particularly all-season colour, and there is undoubted demand in the Spring and Summer wedding season for it that tails off as the year ages, but it doesn't look out of place in Autumn and Winter.
Floral displays love lavender. There's an obvious contender to be used from a flora and fauna stance, but so many other flowers blend gorgeously with it that it is rising at an unprecedented rate in popularity and there is ample choice for decor, wedding dresses and bridesmaid dresses.
Dusty Rose
This is about as close to lavender as you could get without it being lavender, but Dusty Rose gives brides and grooms a colour option if they're determined to fine-tune their palette to perfection.
It fits with every season, offering a deeper and warmer hue than lavender. It works effortlessly with pinks, pastels and delivers a romance without you having to do a great deal with it.
Bridesmaids tend to like it as it is a forgiving colour, whereas brides look positively incredible in it with the right bouquet and hair attire. We think you're going to see a lot more weddings using it beyond 2024 too, because it has been trending in searches of late and shows no sign of slipping.
Orange
What! Orange? Really? Oh yes, don't dismiss what is without question one of the most surprising yet ultra-trendy colours for weddings at present. It shouldn't really come as a surprise due to the boho/rustic theme choices many brides are making today, because when you see it used well you'd think it had been created for weddings in a rustic style.
There are so many hues and tones of orange that give a completely different feel to each other that they colour aesthetics of it are nothing short of fantastic. Then, think about an Autumnal wedding and the colours of that season - it delivers a wedding theme and memories that will be inked in the minds of guests forever.
If you're wondering if bridalwear manufacturers are up to speed, don't worry - they've been making orange wedding dresses and bridesmaid dresses faster than you can say "I want that" in the last 12-18 months as the pace of demand has increased.
Sage Green
Boom. Obviously, Sage Green is in this list and will be for as long as our Google Calendar stretches to in all likelihood. From chair sashes to bridesmaid dresses, it has been in huge demand and it isn't difficult to see why.
It can be made to work with most seasons, it is inoffensive and lends an organic appeal to wedding themes, in addition to being easy to find decor options built for sage green. Is it a little too safe? No, we don't think so, because if you want something different from the status quo, but don't want your elderly grandparents to have a fit when they see it, sage green can be made to be as cool and trendy as anything else.
As for supporting palettes, it blends with ease when you introduce navy blue, pink, gold and dark shades of green. It is one of the most friendly colours you could choose when it comes to decor and complementing accessories.
Yellow
To truly wow guests with a staggering array of brightness and joy, yellow trumps almost anything you can put against it. It can be blindingly bright or romantically toned down - representing Spring, Summer and Autumn with a combination of shades.
It is an exception colour for creating a mood for all occasions, even suited to bright yellows in some quarters moving to deeper yellows in others at a venue. When it comes to dress options, you'll find a wide selection of bridalwear is now on the market, with retailers and manufacturers responding to demand.
Floral displays will be deafeningly beautiful. Imagine a Spring or Summer wedding centred on yellow? Your wedding photographer will be delighted to hear you've opted for yellow too, and their online portfolio will see more clicks on your wedding pictures than anything else they've ever done. It's a colour that people see and wish they'd chosen.
Navy Blue
We've mentioned Navy Blue as a complementing colour in a palette earlier in this blog, but it holds its own firmly when chosen as the primary colour for a wedding theme. It is often associated with cold-weather weddings, but that doesn't mean you can't choose it to add depth and warmth to any seasonal celebration.
It'll work well with blush pinks, yellows, golds and burgundy, giving an almost regal style and elegance that can be difficult to achieve with lighter colours. It is by far one of the most forgiving colours when it comes to body shape, pleasing brides and bridesmaid alike.
There's something about Navy Blue that gives a splendour and air of class so many couples seek, yet it is often overlooked as too dark without spending adequate time exploring the potential of accent colours (such as those mentioned above).
Blush Pink
Here's another colour we've already mentioned! Pink is as feminine as it is deliciously romantic when paired with supporting colour palettes, in fact there is probably no other colour like it if you're after a truly girly bride effect.
When it comes to blush pink, you lose the garishness that a brighter pink might be accused of (although bright pinks worked for Barbie and why not?!). You get a stunningly timeless style with it that accompanies Spring and Summer as if they were best friends.
Dresses, shoes, decor, accessories, you name it, the market has reacted to customers searching for blush pink as their theme choice and you'll find yourself drowning in choice and decisions to be made over similarly designed items.
Dusty Blue
This colour is another favourite for weddings throughout the ages. You'll almost certainly find an Aunt or Uncle has photographs of their wedding day with dusty blue being a noticeable choice in the fading photographs. However, the appeal of the colour means that you'll also find a hoard of weddings from this year showing dusty blue at it's best - it is that flexible, that timeless and that appealling.
It can be paired with greens, darker blues and other colours with relative ease, lending itself to accents that epitomise chic style and attention to detail, lifting and inspiring the bridal party and guests alike.
We'd go as far as to say that this is a colour you're going to see go even higher up the list of trending choices. It is enjoying a renaissance that a classic painter would love to be associated with, and you'll also find nobody at your wedding doesn't like!
Wine
The saying that a good wine gets better with age can be applied to the colour wine. Few colours have been featured in countless wedding shots like wine. It is the archetypal Winter or Autumn colour of choice for a myriad of romantic styles and themes that have been around for decades.
The sheer depth and warmth of wine lends itself to a romantic wedding theme perhaps better than any other. It is sumptuous, yet exciting with the right accent colours. It is a timeless classic for any theme to use as the primary colour and it is effortlessly easy to find bridesmaid dresses, decor to make the heart stop and gloriously elegant.
Flowers of almost any shape, style and colour become available to you, because wine fits with floral arrangements of all tones and is probably the colour a florist hopes you say you've chosen.
Champagne
After years of white and ivory as a second choice, champagne has arrived on the scene and shows no sign of leaving in a hurry. This is a colour with the slightest hint of warmth but an abundance of grace, classy ambience and atmospheric elegance.
Decor will never be an issue, because it is super-easy to blend with anything. Similarly, the bride and bridesmaids can look stunning, with the hue of gold/cream adding an almost subconscious sound of harpists! It has an extra-special 'something' that is very difficult to pin down in words.
Tables will be dressed with it, accents are yours to pick from a barrel of options and it is continuing to rise in popularity, gently but surely making it's way into every trending list of what should be chosen for your wedding theme colours.
